Future Technology Hubs

Innovations in Bremen are particularly visible at the future locations: these are innovative centers that work at the interfaces between industries and bring new innovations to light.

The ECOMAT research and technology center brings together technologies related to the sustainable transformation of the aerospace industry around the topics of cryogenic hydrogen, lightweight construction, manufacturing technology, 3D printing, and virtual testing and approval procedures. In Bremen Airport City, around 500 employees from business and science conduct joint and interdisciplinary research.

The Digital Hub Industry Bremen (DHI) is a platform that connects companies and start-ups from the industry sector with digital technologies and innovation potential from science. Here, solutions for automation, artificial intelligence, and Industry 4.0 are developed. The hub promotes innovative business models and supports start-ups. The DHI is also home to the Transfer Center for Artificial Intelligence Bremen AI and the #MOIN initiative - Model Region Industrial Mathematics.

In Food Land Bremen, all topics in the food and beverage industry along the value chain are focused on, such as branding, distribution channels, packaging, hygiene, and market research, but also cross-cutting topics such as sustainability, new technologies, or organizational development.

In Bremerhaven, the Food Hub First offers science-based product development in the food and beverage industry. Here, the technical implementation in sample, small, and pilot series as well as scaling of new products takes place. They also provide support in the future-oriented food topics of analytics, procedures, and process engineering as well as in the integration of the scientific and technical environment in Bremerhaven.

LUNEDELTA is a future-oriented business park in the south of Bremerhaven, designed to harmonize ecological, social, and economic objectives through its sustainable approach. It offers space for innovative companies committed to responsible and future-oriented business practices. The business incubator, the first building within LUNEDELTA, provides young enterprises with the right conditions for a successful launch. Both established companies and start-ups have the opportunity to establish themselves in this area.

Commercial areas and productive city

Areas are important for an innovation location in order to attract companies or enable expansion. Bremen has an ideal location - a central airport, direct links to the A1 and A27 freeways, an inner-city port - and industrial estates that meet a wide range of requirements. Whether newly developed areas or the conversion of former industrial sites, there are vacant areas in various settings. WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH markets Bremen's industrial estates on behalf of the Senator for Economics, Ports and Transformation. In Bremerhaven, BIS Bremerhavener Gesellschaft für Investitionsförderung und Stadtentwicklung mbH is responsible.

Further information

The Hansalinie business park, in the immediate vicinity of the Mercedes-Benz plant and conveniently located on the A1 highway, has established itself as an attractive location for suppliers. The GVZ in the southern part of Bremen creates space for logistics companies, while the technology park brings together start-ups, science and high-tech companies.

However, space is also being developed and made available for the skilled trades and traditional SMEs. The Productive City concept makes it possible to combine production with living and working in the heart of the city. The city of Bremen is predestined for this with its industrial base and strong skilled trades sector. This is flanked by an economic and urban development policy that increasingly focuses on mixed-use and mixed-function districts.
