Port Development Concept 2035
The ports and the maritime industry have always been of vital importance to the state of Bremen, and especially to its economic future. It is important and right that other economic sectors such as the automotive and aerospace industries, as well as our diverse research and development landscape, strengthen the economic structure of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. Nevertheless, Bremen and Bremerhaven together remain primarily a maritime logistics location. Bremen's port and logistics industry forms the basis for the economy of the entire northwestern region of Germany. Politicians in Bremen therefore have an obligation to maintain this potential and develop it further for the future.
The updating of port concepts is necessary on a regular basis in view of the constantly changing global shipping markets. Highly dynamic developments in the global economy with significant market concentrations on the part of internationally operating shipping companies, changes in economic conditions, new challenges in the port-related working environment due to automation and digitization processes, new requirements for propulsion systems and fuels, and, last but not least, the effects of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and Russia's war of aggression on the entire port and logistics industry, form the framework for the necessary further development of the existing port concept.

Strengthening international competitiveness, driving innovation, and preparing ports for the future: the Port Development Concept 2035 lays the foundation for the future development of Bremen's ports.
