Digital Infrastructure

High-performance gigabit connections are necessary infrastructures for businesses, administration, and citizens to quickly exchange information and knowledge. They are an important location factor for the establishment of companies and also increase the attractiveness of residential locations. They create jobs and are a prerequisite for innovation and growth.

The aim is to have as complete a gigabit supply as possible for all private households and companies in the state of Bremen by 2030. In order to achieve this goal, the focus is primarily on the commercial expansion of telecommunications companies. The framework conditions for competitive fiber optic expansion are to be further improved. This includes examining gaps in supply in order to identify possible funding potential.

The interim target set by the federal government of supplying half of all private and commercial households with fiber optics by 2025 has already been significantly exceeded by the telecommunications companies' own expansion projects. According to the federal government's Gigabit land register, the federal state of Bremen is one of the leaders in the national ranking for gigabit and fiber optic availability due to its characteristics as a city state.

In addition to the wired infrastructure, mobile communication is also an essential element of innovation. According to the federal government's current mobile communication monitoring, the coverage with 5G is 100 percent of the area in the state of Bremen.

The expansion of digital infrastructure has been supported for years by the Lower Saxony-Bremen Broadband Center and its successful work.
